Purple Passion 08/28/13

Happy Tuesday scrappers and welcome to my coffee addiction! I always like to show you how to use my favorite color, PURPLE in your projects, even when traditionally, purple wouldn't necessarily work. Today is a good example; how do you work purple into a card about coffee?

Well for starters, I found an adorable cut file in the Silhouette Store. It's supposed to be a gift card holder, but I made a few modifications to make it into just a regular card.

I used the adorable Mark's Finest Paper's Oh Beans stamp set. The outside "cup sleeve" is stamped with coffee beans and the inside has the sentiment and the stacked coffee cups image. I used Elizabeth Crafts Glitter Ritz for the sparkle on the cups. You can see a tutorial of this awesome stuff HERE. After I got all the glitter in place, I used an old purple off-brand stamp pad to color the cups and then I used the coffee image again to stamp the insides of the cups.

Purple Passion 08/21/13

Happy Wednesday to you! It's hump day!!! Woot! And it's also time for another installment of Purple Passion. Each week, I show an example of how to incorporate purple in your projects. Sometimes it's a little and sometimes it's A LOT!

This week, I decided to go for another card using Tim Holtz Distress Inks by Ranger. I've done a total of three of these in the past few months and I just love the technique. This time, I chose a Christmas stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers called You Are An Angel. I wanted to make a golden light effect around her head and halo, so I chose various shades of yellows and oranges for my color palette. After stamping my image with Black Memento ink, I started with the lightest yellow and covered the entire page. Then I used the next darkest color and didn't go quite to the center. A little less for the third color, and so on until the darkest orange was used just around the edges of the page.

I love the effect of purple and orange together since they're on the opposite sides of the color wheel, so I had to put a purple mat behind my main picture. I mounted all of that onto a yellow card base that matched the yellow in my inks, and voila!

Purple Passion 08/14/13

Mark's Finest Paper has just released a stamp set I'm ABSOLUTELY in LOVE with! It's called Joyous Season, and it's awesome!! It has a few sentiments, and then a really big stamp with a deer laying in the woods. Although she is laying on a bed of evergreens, I could totally see this stamp working for all kinds of other cards too, besides just Christmas themed ones.

I stamped my image with black Memento ink on Kraft paper so that I could start with a light brown base. I wanted to be able to color the birch trees white. I used watercolor pencils to color the image. I mounted the two pieces of Kraft on a darker brown and then put everything on...you guessed it...PURPLE!

Inside the card, I used another sentiment and image from the same stamp set. I LOVE this set!!

Purple Passion 08/07/13

This is a fun week over at Mark's Finest Papers. It's sneak peek time!!!! Their August collection is coming out next week, so until then, the design teams get to give you little snippets of what's to come! Here's my offering:

I used a new set called Country Charm. It's ADORABLE! It came with the barn you see in the background, and some of the cutest little animals! There's also some great sentiments including the "What's Moo?" that I used on the front of the card.

I stamped the cute cow on white paper with black Memento ink and then added a few pink spots in all the appropriate places with some watercolor pencils. Couldn't be easier for the perfect cow! I fussy cut and used pop dots to give it some dimension. I used the same black ink on red cardstock for the barn, and then used fringe scissors to cut the grass in green. Everything went on a purple card base, so I got my favorite color in there!! It might not be much, but I think it goes beautifully with the other colors on the card!

This week, I decided to use a stamp that came out recently, from the Mark's Finest paper set called I Need A Vacation. I love the tropical feel and the images are gorgeous! I stamped an image of the tree in the set onto white cardstock with black Memento ink. Then I went to town with my Tim Holtz Distress Inks in shades of blue. I started with the lightest shade first and then worked my way out with darker shades. This is a technique I do often because I just love the effect.

Instead of going entirely blue with this card, I've matted the image in purple. Sometimes just the smallest little bit of purple is all that's needed to make a big impression! And of course, as we all know...purple rocks!!

Purple Passion 07/17/13

I love love love me some purple, and today is no exception. I started with THE cutest little MFP stamp set called Dino News. At first glance, I thought, "Oh how cute...a kid's stamp set." Then I looked closer at the sentiments!!!

LOVE this one!! It says, "So, what were the dinosaurs like you YOU were Young?" Hahahahaha! This will be the PERFECT stamp set to make cards for all my "older" friends this year!!!

On the inside, I just have a plain and simple, Happy Birthday. I decided to add the RRROAR! in at the last minute. It just added that little something!!

To make my card, I used some old Bo Bunny cardstock that's been in my stash forever, and then of course some purple and some green cardstock. I used black Memento ink to stamp pictures and sentiments and then finished everything off with some rich cream colored ribbon. YAY purple!

Purple Passion 07/10/13

I was playing around on Pinterest this past weekend, looking for some inspiration. I'll be honest, although I think Pinterest is a cool idea, I haven't become completely addicted to it the way a lot of people have. But this weekend may have changed things for me! I found SO MANY IDEAS for Christmas cards! It was a lot of fun! I think I still have a way to go, but I think addiction might come one of these days!

I used a Provocraft Snowflake embossing folder for the banners and a Silhouette Scallop border for the scalloped piece. I used two snowflake punches (that I got at a garage sale for 25 cents each last weekend!!) for the embellishment. The cute Merry Christmas sentiment comes from Mark's Finest Paper's, You Are An Angel stamp set that was just released a few weeks ago.
